List each appliance with its wattage and the hours a day you need it during a power cut: the wattage of appliances running at the same time sizes the inverter, while total watt-hours size the battery bank. Fridges, pumps and other motor appliances need extra allowance for their start-up surge.

Only if the inverter and charge controller have spare capacity and any new batteries match the existing type, voltage, capacity and age; adding new batteries to an old bank is generally not advised. If you expect to expand, mention it before the system is estimated so components can be sized with room to grow.

Keep panels free of dust, check that battery terminals are tight and free of corrosion, and keep the battery area ventilated. Lithium batteries need less routine care than flooded lead-acid batteries, which need their water level checked.
